So I am a software tester and when I started my new job I was put in charge of testing a pretty important security project. My team lead came over to me and told me the opposite of what testers are supposed to do. She told me do not find any defects because it will make our developers look bad. She also told me to only test what developers tell me to test. (testers are supposed to come up with their own test cases).
Anyway, since then I have heard that testers need to find defects from my manager and also after I came back from vacation, my team lead had someone redo all my work.
I was thinking of just talking to my manager and telling her how my team lead gave me the advise of not finding any defects 2 months ago and ask her if that is the philosophy of the team, ';not make the developers look bad';.
The thing is I don't want it to look like I am getting her in trouble but just to let my manager know what she had told me and if there is any trueth to that still.Should I ask my manager about the very bad advice my team lead gave me?
approach your manager and ask him about your performance. Tell him that you are concerned that you may have gotten some poor advice on how to perform you duties. (do not identify the person)
When your manager asks ';What kind of poor advice'; tell him or her what was told to you and include the fact that you have since learned otherwise.
Ask him or her to verify that what you are to do: Test as you know how to, or test to make the developers look good.
