Well i have a doctor's appointment scheduled March 31st but apparently i'm going through a pretty bad flare up right now. I'm going to the restroom 4 times a day with blood and a bit tired. No cramping. Bubble sounds in my stomach. Still eating and playing baseball though. I am taking meds though. Any advice on what to do right now? Maybe something that will stop the flare up? Thanks for your help!Going through a bad flare up with my crohn's disease, any advice on what to do?
hi my, i have been a crohn's pt. for 29 yrs. My heart goes out to you as I truly understand what you are going through w/a flare up.
Did your GI give you anything for spasms in your gut such as Bentyl or Hyocosamine? Ask for that. Also, for abdominal pain see if you can get something strong such as Darvocet, Demerol, Tylenol 3 w/codeine, etc. These will help you get through when you are in severe pain. Are you on any meds like Entocort, Humira, Remicade, 6MP, or Imuran? Be sure to avoid smoking and drinking as that will interact w/meds and wreak havoc on the gut.
Use a thermacare heatwrap for your back to sleep with. Move the heating discs to the front on your stomach %26amp; you can sleep w/it on for 8 hrs.
Instead of eating raw veggies/fruits, eat canned b/c it is easier to break down in the stomach and softer on the insides of the intestines. This is the information that I got from the dietician at the hospital. See if you can meet with someone at a local facility near you b/c registered dieticians deal with sick pts. who need special diets all the time.
For more information, check out the crohn's %26amp; colitis foundation of america's site. They have tons of updated topics ranging from diet, surgery, coping skills, to finding a local support group near you. They also have a live chat, a hotline, and the newest thing--a forum where pts. and their family members can post questions for other crohnies to answer. The hotline and chat are run by medical professionals so you don't have to worry about bad advice.
Feel free to email me with questions. I have been through flare ups many many times and it really stinks. I hope that you feel better soon.
